Johnston Packers was established in 1937 by Mr. Carmen Johnston in Chilliwack, BC. At that time he offered custom slaughtering services and had one full-time and one part-time employee. Seventy-two years later Johnston’s is still in Chilliwack, still offers custom slaughter, but now employs and supports over 120 families in the area who work directly for Johnston’s.

Johnston’s remains a family-owned business today. Don Ball, Mr. Johnston’s nephew, worked for his Uncle Carmen until he passed away. Don purchased the business from Carmen Johnston’s daughter and in 1968 purchased Henry’s Meat Market on Promontory relocating Johnston’s there and it remains at the same location to this day.

From one man with a vision, Johnston’s has continued to grow, persevere and adapt to change while maintaining traditional values of family, community, quality and service.

In the last few years, the meat industry has changed dramatically. There are increasing challenges but Johnston’s is preparing for a new era. We, with our producers, are ready to enter the next decade with a refreshed image, a focus on what we do best – quality products, old-fashioned service and high value.

In the past, word-of-mouth of Johnston’s quality has grown our customer base and business. For the future, we will be telling our story, building our business directly and will poise Johnston’s as the source for quality products from BC producers. We want Johnston’s to be a household name in British Columbia and to have Johnston’s name associated with quality products for another seventy years.

Johnston’s success and over seventy-year history has been as a result of consistent core values. Service, value and exceptional service to its customers are important to us, but beyond that and before our quality pork products make its to BC family’s tables is the care we take in ensuring our employees, producers, animals are treated fairly and that we are privileged to give back to the community we live, work and play in.
